Red Ribbon Week
October 23-31, 2024
- Red Ribbon Week is a national drug prevention and awareness campaign that began following the murder of Enrique Camarena, an undercover DEA agent, in 1985.
- Coalitions began to form by those outraged by his death and the devastation drugs in this country caused - they wore red ribbons to honor him.
- By wearing a red ribbon in October, Americans pledge their opposition to drug abuse.
- Across the nation, students are pledging to avoid tobacco, drugs, alcohol, and violence.
DID YOU KNOW?
Children of parents who talk to teens regularly about drugs are 42% less likely to use drugs than those who don’t – yet only a quarter of teens report having these conversations?!
This year our Camp Creek ES PTA Health Committee has organized several events in honor of Red Ribbon Week: (see below)
The 2024 theme is…Life is a movie. Film Drug Free.™
